vodka / Roblox obfuscator
A free Roblox obfuscator. And the key system to go with it.
Protect your Roblox Lua and Luau scripts with encoded constants, flattened control flow and an opt-in per-function bytecode VM, then gate access with your own key system. Free for you and your players.

The short version
Obfuscation you can run in the browser.
vodka is a free Lua and Luau script-protection platform. Paste or upload your Roblox script, build a protected release in the browser and get a stable loadstring to distribute. There is nothing to install and no cost, for you or your players.
The protection is not a single trick. By default it rewrites your source: strings and numbers are encoded with a decode key derived at runtime, control flow is flattened, locals are renamed and the output is minified and watermarked. These are source-level changes, so protected code runs within noise of the original.
Maximum protection, opt-in
Turn on the per-function bytecode VM per script when secrecy matters more than speed.
It is off by default because interpreting bytecode is slower than native Luau. Measure your hot path before enabling it.
See the cost: runtime benchmarks.
More than obfuscation
Protect, key and deliver in one place.
A key system when you want one
Add free-key tasks, lifetimes, HWID locks and revocation, enforced on the server, with a Discord bot for redemption. Or ship a protected loadstring with no key system at all.
Each keyed delivery carries a traceable fingerprint, so a casually leaked copy maps back to the key that received it.
Monetize it, directly
Connect your own work.ink, LootLabs or Linkvertise account as a key-claim step. The provider pays you directly and vodka verifies completion server-side so it cannot be click-skipped.

Where protection ends
Honest about the boundary.
No client-side obfuscator can make a delivered secret unrecoverable. An authorized client receives the code it runs, so running the loader can recover the strings and reverse the arithmetic. This is true of every obfuscator, vodka included, and we will not pretend otherwise.
What protection does is raise the cost of casual inspection and copying. What actually gates access is server-side: the key check, expiry, revocation and HWID locks are all enforced where the client never sees how the decision was made. Keep anything that must stay secret on a server, and read the benchmarks for exactly what the engine does and does not defeat.

What the engine does
The protection pipeline layer by layer, and a plain account of what it does and does not defend against.
Reproducible benchmarks
Run the exact harness yourself: protection resistance, runtime overhead and the weaknesses we do not hide.
The key system
Free-key tasks, HWID locks, revocation and a Discord bot, enforced on the server rather than in the loader.
What it costs
Free for creators and players. Monetize with your own ad-link provider; the platform never holds the money.

Questions
A few things worth knowing.
01Is vodka a free Roblox obfuscator?
Yes. Protecting a Roblox Lua or Luau script with vodka is free, in the browser, with nothing to install. You also get a stable loadstring, an optional key system, HWID locking and a Discord bot at no cost, for you and your players.
02How does the obfuscation work?
By default vodka rewrites your source: strings and numbers are encoded with a runtime-derived decode key, control flow is flattened, locals are renamed and the output is minified and watermarked. An opt-in per-function bytecode VM adds stronger protection for the scripts that need it, at a runtime cost you should measure.
03Will obfuscation slow my game down?
The default source rewrites run within noise of native Luau. The opt-in bytecode VM adds interpreter cost and can be expensive on hot or looping code, which is why it is off by default. Measure your own script with the Roblox MicroProfiler or an os.clock() loop before enabling it.
04Can obfuscation keep a key or secret safe on the client?
No. An authorized client receives the code it runs, so any delivered value is recoverable. Obfuscation raises the cost of inspection; it does not make a client a vault. Keep keys and access decisions on the server, where vodka already enforces them.
